I can't believe some of the reviews, neither should you

All GPS units have some likes and dislikes of their owners and many of the negative reviewers either have little tech ability, little patience, do not take time to read instructions, and/or are too used to the workings of another make. One GPS device may be good for some people, and not for others. There is no perfect GPS unit and not everyone will agree on what is important. One may work well in one urban community/road area and not in another. Not everyone likes the same things and not everyone is creative or can figure out how to use them. This is a very good unit for the size, money, and functions. Don't have any GPS unit in a real sunny location and don't obstruct your view or look at it too closely while driving; have a passenger use it as none of us should be distracted from driving. I really dislike my TomTom 630GO, the updates, the usability and it doesn't seem to understand eastern Washington, and I really like the Magellan set-up. I have issues with my lexus GPS and with my son's Honda GPS. And I do not use all of them regularly to keep it all figured out, but this unit is really easy to figure out and use, and it does not lock-out when driving. This is an excellent vehicle GPS (not for walking around) and I bought it over others because: the built-in AAA guide has many benefits and I am a member (it needs to be updated, too), it has a large, easy to read screen, great volume, it is bluetooth compatible, and it has a reliable, well designed mounting system (depending on your vehicle). I had not seen a suction system that does not eventually fail and break something, but I like the extended mount this comes with, and the Akron lighter socket GPS support with the lighter extension for local traffic usability. If you have a small car, get a 4.3 to 5" max GPS. If you have a truck, SUV, or a deep dash this size is good. One reviewer said it is the same map on this as a 4.3 unit. Rediculous!!! Of course it is same, just as a 60" TV gives you the same movie borders as a 20" TV; just larger not more map, and that makes it easier to read and push the screen. The plugging in of the power plug is simply shown on the first page, why people complain about the power mount is beyond comprehension; follow the directions and it works very easily. Some complain about how curvy or sharp edged the roads appear or the color format; you better have your eyes on the road most of the time and this really does not matter. This unit works great, and I have experience with many types. Yes there is only one voice, so does your parent, partner, friend, or boss, why do people need more voice choices or a celebrity voice? Can you change the voices of your TV announcers? Why is this an issue? Yes, a few words are garbled a bit, but it is not really a big deal as it is chip based and will not sound perfect. It does what it is supposed to do. My advice is to decide what really matters to you. In my case, size, mount, AAA, and bluetooth mattered. It is a great unit and has many pluses over other makes. There is no "Ideal" GPS for everyone. I highly recommend this unit and feel it is a great price for what you get. It does what it is supposed to do so 5 stars is what it deserves. I believe too many supposed tech savvy people don't read instructions, and everyone should download, print, and read the pdf manual for maximum function and appreciation. Bon Voyage!

Great sized screen. Bluetooth non-functional, backup camera works about 90%
By William Broadhead on Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2014
"It does everything" [but not very well] I bought this because it was kind of the flagship product. It was theoretically to add Bluetooth and a backup camera to my car. I have had this product about two years now. Maps Lifetime maps was a big selling point for me. I previously had a Magellan but it was $99 to update maps, so why not just put that towards a newer model, right? Planned obsolescence. I figured with lifetime maps, for a top of the line model, it would have some longevity. After I got it, I used it for a month or two before trying to update the maps. There had been a fair amount of rerouting freeway overpasses and the like in my area and the update picked up most of them except the absolute latest changes. I personally like the map interface, the points of interest, the search by name feature, the quick buttons, the elevation display, and the fact it gets traffic updates (for life) which UDOT does serve so it appropriately suggests alternates when there is road work, extra heavy traffic, or accidents. I have often used google maps on my phone simultaneously to compare and the Magellan does a good job. It is perhaps not as advanced in some ways as the latest google maps, but it works quite well and works where there is no phone signal. It also has a massive screen that is very easy to see at a glance. I have it mounted on its arm on the center air vent (I carefully hard-mounted) and this allows me to position it just below my windscreen view, but just above [most] of my stereo headset interface. The arm easily swivels around for me to insert and remove CDs, etc. 4.5 Stars. Bluetooth Before I updated the system and the maps, the bluetooth at least kind of worked. I had at the time a G2 android phone. It would connect and pair, but the sound was like it was underwater and pretty garbled. People had a hard time understanding me and I them. I figured an update might help, right? After I updated, my phone would rarely pair and even more rarely connect once paired. Since I updated the Magellan essentially has no bluetooth functionality at this point. I generally just put my phone on speaker and stick it in the armrest and that suffices well enough. It would have been nice if the Bluetooth actually worked though. I have a BT earpiece (several infact, mostly Motorola) and it works fine. The G2, then the Amaze 4G and currently the Galaxy S3 all have failed to work with the Magellan but work fine with ear pieces and my wifes car (Sorento) with built in BT. Why does the Magellan suck at bluetooth? I do not know. I would guess because they suck at it. 0 Stars. Rear View Camera i got the magellan camera kit to go with this and it works very well. It was pretty easy to install as well. There is a small (200ms perhaps) delay in the RF transmission of the image, but not a big deal. occasionally, It will flicker back and forth between the backup signal and the nav screen, but generally it works great. The big screen makes it easy to see what is behind you and the picture is pretty decent. On par with my wife's Sorento, but not as good as most Nissans have. 4 Stars Total Score: About 3 Stars. Decent product, great screen, good maps, decent camera funcationaity, but basically the BT feature is a throw away. Do NOT buy it if you think you want this to be your BT interface.
