Very good deal overall, especially if you have a Vita
By Alice M. Cabrera on Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2013
If you were on a budget you could just pay for this membership and play the many games that comes with it and not be without games. They add a lot of good games (I find for me I find something interesting every few months) to the point I have a huge backlog now and am starting to worry if I'm going to fill up my PS3's hard drive (I've only been a member 5 months now). Also, you will always have access to any "free" games you download on PS+ as long as you are a member. So if you need to stop paying for a while (and aren't playing the games), you can pick PS+ up later and get access again to all the games you downloaded before under PS+. Think of it like Netflix but you get to play the games offline as well, no internet required to play the games you get (just internet required to obtain them and probably also every time when your sub runs out you'll need to connect once to let the game license know you are good for another year or so <- you can stack years). Also, if you have a Vita, I really can't stress that you really should subscribe. It seems that a lot of the best Vita games make it onto this membership (I've gotten Gravity Rush, Wipe Out, Uncharted, Rayman Origins all on it and that's just the Vita specific games, not even including the PSP games like GTA Tales of Liberty City. And I know Persona was on it at one time as well as Assassin's Creed). Bad side of being a PS+ member when you have a Vita? You're going to want a large memory card of which those are super overpriced :(. But if you wait good deals come around (well at least deals that make the cards more reasonable). Like I just picked up a 32 GB for 40 bux. Also, the cloud storage saves is really nice to have and you can get some really good discounts (FF XIV was half off when I wrote this review on both the regular and special edition) on digital games. Plus sometimes you get to play beta trials (I discovered Killzone for the Vita through the beta trial I could participate in as a PS+ membership). It's sad that Sony will not allow MP without PS+ on PS4, but the fact that they offer so much for it that I got this before they even announced that (and I'm a cheapskate and usually don't go for these kind of services) has me not caring too much. I already have PS+ for stuff Sony actually offers me extra so it doesn't feel like I'm being cajoled into paying rather than them offering me a good value to join.

It's a good service, but just not for me.
By Christopher Lang on Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2015
This serves as more of a review of the PS+ service than the actual "product" I received from Amazon. I like the idea of PlayStation Plus but I just find that it's personally not something that I would pay for again. I bought the one-year subscription after I received a PS4 as a gift. The subscription was on sale for Black Friday at half-off so I figured it was a good time to see if the service was worthwhile. With PS+ there are a few "perks" you get in return for your subscription payment. While you are subscribed you get access to multiplayer on PS4 (PS3 and Vita already have free multiplayer), cloud storage for saved games, automatic updates, and "free" games each month. I really have to stress the idea of the games being free is a complete fallacy. You pay for the subscription and you get to play games in return. You are still paying for the games; they are not without a monetary cost. And once the subscription expires your access to the game goes away. It's nothing more than an extended rental. I was also unimpressed with the selection of games offered during my year's subscription. I downloaded and played a handful of the dozens that were offered and really only enjoyed one of them. That's no fault of Sony's or any fault of the service; it's just a personal opinion. I'm not a big fan of indie games (in general) and that seems to make up the bulk of Sony's Instant Game Collection that they offer with PS+ The automatic updates and cloud storage are nice features, but ultimately I never used them or really cared that they were even there. Steam offers these same features for free on PC and it's done far more elegantly, too. PS+ is also required for multiplayer on PS4, which in my opinion is completely stupid. I'm not into multiplayer or competitive games but it's stupid to force a subscription service on those people that enjoy it. Again, multiplayer is free on Steam and PC (excluding games that are deliberately subscription-based) and it still is free on PS3 and Vita. Forcing the subscription onto PS4 users to play with people seems completely unnecessary and is just a cash-grab mechanic. Overall, I wouldn't re-subscribe to PS+ with the current perks being offered. I'm sure it benefits a large portion of people, but I'm not one of them. I'm just not the target demographic for this sort of service.
