Perfect so far...

Lemme say, I looked forever online for a sub $100 tripod with SMOOTH PANNING for video. That was my main goal, and something more than 60" tall. I first ordered a Slik U9000TBM U9000, and it arrived damaged. The crank broke off in transit, I guess. After sending it back, I ordered this one after watching a couple youtube reviews on it. It seemed well enough made. Legs are larger in diameter than I've seen on other tripods... but I like this because I think it makes it more sturdy. And that is important. I noticed right away though that the panning had some "play" in it. I was very disappointed at first. But i remember some wise a-- on another site criticizing people for not adjusting things properly, then complaining about something not working. : - ) I didn't want to be one of those people. So I really looked further into all the adjustment knobs and eventually found the problem. With proper tuning and tightening, panning is perfectly smooth, with no play. It's just a WEE bit stiff, but really nothing to complain about. And being a novice videographer, it may actually be better like it is rather then my expectation of it moving even more freely. I think this will contribute to smoother video. It's not difficult to move at all, just stiffer than my previous one. And I know there are some suggestions to fix that, but again, I'm going to go with what I have for now and see how I like it. I can always use the suggestions I've seen online if I think it's not loosening up with use... The large handle is a little longer than I like, but that's personal preference. The legs lock well. The bottom rubberized shoes on the legs add stability. The hook on the bottom is handy and works fine so far. The locking camera plate seems to be secure, I have no fear of the camera coming loose from the plate or the tripod. Adjustments are many and flexible enough to get a perfect setup for your needs. I like the black color, less conspicuous than silver... The case is sufficient. And it's tall enough for my needs, though I would have liked a 70", I understand it may not have been as stable that high, so I'll live with this one at 60". If you are looking for a smooth panning tripod for video, I can't recommend this enough. Very happy with it so far. (Canon 60D, prominent video use)

JUNK JUNK JUNK

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. The top of this tripod is GLUED on, NOT screwed on, although it has rivets. You cannot put a camera on it because the camera will, at worse, fall off and, at best, wobble. I bought this through J&R Music and Computer World and it is manufactured by Sanford and Davis (Tiffen). J&R told me to contact the manufacturer, which I have done, on several occasions. I have sent Tiffen pictures, as per their request, and they still do not respond to me. I have called twice and sent emails. They are very nice on the phone and then they hang up and do nothing. I do not know why they refuse to respond. It's inexcusable. I contacted J&R again and they are telling me there is NOTHING THEY CAN DO and to call the manufacturer. They can give me back my money! These are two companies whom I will not do business with again. I am only giving this one star because I have to, otherwise it would get none.
