Not a work of art, but more than adequate for small rooms

First of all, I should say that I think this would make an EXCELLENT gift for a college freshman; when they lose their iPhone charger "in the library," you won't be out some ridiculous amount, and when one of their new "friends" carelessly knocks this device off the nightstand in a Jagermeister-induced frenzy, you won't have to drive over and personally teach the little punk a lesson about respecting other people's property...with your fists.Because this speaker is really reasonably priced. In fact, there was an excellent deal on Amazon Warehouse deals for an open-box version (around $25...make sure to look on WD first!), so I thought what the heck (I'm not in college, and I don't drink Jagermeister, but I have 2 inquisitive cats, and as everyone knows, 1 cat = 1/2 19.y.o. American male). Now that I've had this speaker for a couple of months, here are the most obvious pros and cons as I see them:PROS:-Excellent value for a combination nightlight/alarm clock/iPhone charger/radio/speaker-Can be used WITH the iPhone case still one (maybe not a super-thick Otter or kid-proof one, but I have a standard plastic snap-on and there is an adjustable dial on the speaker cradle that is likely to accommodate a thicker package)-Decent sound quality at mid to slightly-high volumes; perfectly sufficient for small rooms and non-rowdy gatherings-DOES charge iPhone 4 when plugged into cradle (some reviewers had said otherwise)-Lots of features, including sleep timer, dimmer, snooze, radio memory buttons, AUX inputCONS:-Not all too mobile; the phone stays put in the cradle but any serious or consistent jostling and would probably crack the plastic piece which holds the phone in place-Not particularly intuitive; I've misplaced the manual (doh!) and cannot for the life of me figure out how to change it from 24H to 12H time (why must this be the default?!!)-Not gorgeous or exceedingly well-made; it's kind of a strange design, since the iPhone sits next to rather than on top of or nested within the main unit; the plastic is pretty cheap and a small child could probably break multiple parts of it in a matter of minutes-Minor gripe: to turn off the radio, you have to hold the power button for a few seconds rather than just tap it once.I've never used the alarm or sleep-timer functions, so can't speak to those. But in general, as long as you're not comparing the sound quality or aesthetics to a Bose system - which also costs about 5x as much - I think that this is a great small-room or kitchen speaker (I had actually wanted it for the bathroom, but was anxious that the steam would really damage the components so have left it in the bedroom).

Don't order this----------inferior product.

I purchased this for my lake house so there was a delay in my getting it up there and proceeding to set it up; hence, 30 day expiration for returns missed. However, firstly, it is an old product--had a 2011 battery in it. It was not user friendly and did not operate efficiently or correctly; hence, my wanting to return it. I really would like this returned, but it appears I am stuck. Stuck is not good especially with an inferior product. Not usually Amazon's quality.NJK
