Works as intended

New GPU has more DisplayPort connectors than HDMI so used this cable to hook up one of my extra monitors. Everything works great and getting rated specs. Cable quality is great with solid connections. DP side has a little press release on the cable so don’t forcibly disconnect without pushing it down.

Works with DisplayPort video source NOT HDMI video source.
By Pearl Dragoness on Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2013
I didn't read way down into the product details to see this cable only works for a DisplayPort video source, not an HDMI video source. It should state that in the title or at least as the first bullet point in the listing, but apparently they figure they'll hide the important detail way down in the listing so they can sell these to people who can't use them who then won't bother to pay to return them. I bet most of the 1-star reviews that say the cable was defective were actually trying to use it with an HDMI video source. I actually couldn't find any HDMI source to DisplayPort cables on Amazon. I didn't research it carefully but from bits I've read, I think the problem is that HDMI and DisplayPort use completely different protocols. Since DisplayPort is much less common than HDMI, a lot of DisplayPort sources (but not all) can also put out an HDMI protocol signal when you connect a DP to HDMI cable, but I'm guessing that no HDMI source will put out a DP signal, so I think it's simply impossible to make an HDMI to DP cable (unless maybe the cable has a built-in circuit to do conversion from HDMI to DP protocol). However, most monitors that have a DP input will also have a DVI input, and DVI is actually the underlying protocol that the HDMI cable transmits through some of its pins (it also has pins to transmit audio and even ethernet). So you can get an HDMI to DVI cable instead of trying to use the DP input. That's what I use. If you can't do that, then maybe search for something like "active HDMI to DisplayPort converter" on Google. I'm seeing a number of people rating my review as not helpful, I assume because I'm being critical of the product listing rather than the product, but I'm going to leave this at 1 star unless the listing is fixed because I know many people read 1-star reviews first and if I can save a few of them from buying a cable that won't work for them, then it was worthwhile. If you agree, rate this as helpful and maybe if this or a similar review becomes rated most helpful so it's seen first, the seller will fix the listing. Or at least it will help some folks that can't use the cable save some money and trouble.
