Excellent improvement over the previous generation Jawbones
By 365BeautySecrets on Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2010
I've owned the Original (1st generation) and the New (2nd generation), but skipped the Prime and Ear Candy. I must say that this new generation called Icon is AWESOME, especially with my iPhone. I can't believe that it has 2 ways to give a battery status: (1) visual battery bar on the iPhone display screen, right next to my iPhone battery bar, and (2) audio battery status by simply clicking the button on the bluetooth. Granted, it's not exact, but it's good enough. The battery lasts for 4 talk hours approximately. I don't know how long for standby but I don't have to charge it every day. Besides it charges quickly, maybe an hour if that. The power cable is much shorter but works great for laptops, no more tangles. The cable can be flexed upward or downward into a fixed position. I love that the cable can be separated from the power adapter so it becomes a USB adapter to be plugged into my laptop, just like previous generations. The power adapter head is the same model as previous ones, so it can be reused. However, I sold my spare parts from my old Jawbone quickly on Craigslist. I don't see power adapters available on [...] at the moment, don't know why. I also like that I can plug the USB cable into my car charger so I can charge it while driving. For that, I do wish the cable was a tad longer, but it's not a deal breaker. I like the improvement on the ear loop where it's less likely to break like in the previous generation. However, I already lost it since it comes off easy (in order to not break off). Unfortunately, the new ear loops are not sold separately from the new ear buds on [...]. Supposedly an ear loop is not required but it doesn't like to stay in my ear, so I need them. Like a previous reviewer highlighted, the new Icon cannot be accidentally turned on/off in your pocket due to the change in the design where the button is located. The price is great, especially since it's much cheaper than the old generations. I seriously buy a new one almost once per year because I drop them many times and then eventually break it to the point where it gets crappy reception. Friends complained that the previous one sounded crappy but I still could hear everyone just fine. Other than that, the Jawbones are usually great. All in all, I'm very happy with Jawbone and definitely recommend it to friends and family. I've bought 3 of the previous generations for myself and another 3 for all of my brothers. Alot of my friends own them too.

Sound quality much poorer than expected.
By Kindle Customer on Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2010
This is my second attempt at using a Jawbone. I tried a Jawbone 2 when it first came out and found it impossible to get it to fit properly. So I returned it. After the raves for the Icon, along with indications that it has improved fit over previous designs, I decided to take another chance when I needed to get a second headset to carry in my car. My reason for trying it was that with all of the claims about the sound quality, I was hoping it would offer an improved experience with conference calls at work when working from home. The Plantronics 975 that I've been using does a good job, but I decided to see if I could get an even better one. My plan was to replace the Plantronics that I use at home with the Icon and carry the Plantronics in the car. When I received the Icon, I was very pleased to see that the fit problems were a thing of the past... fit went from impossible with the Jawbone 2 to excellent with the Icon. Then I went on to actual usage. I tried it on 2 different conference calls the day I received it. To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. With the first call, I immediately noticed that I was having problems hearing anyone who wasn't very near to the phone on the other end. The voices of those people would fade in and out constantly. I tried playing around with the phone's volume with no improvement. I was able to switch from the Icon to the Plantronics part way through the call, and the sound quality on my end with the Plantronics was dramatically better... fading wasn't a problem at all and I could hear everyone in the room. The phone on the conference call end was a full duplex phone, designed specifically for good conference call performance. Since I didn't want to base a conclusion on one test, I tried the Icon on a second call that was in a different room at work, thus a different phone. I started with the Icon and had the same problem with voices fading in and out. A switch mid-call to the Plantronics resolved that issue and allowed me to participate effectively in the meeting. Now, I do realize that the Jawbone's claim to sound quality fame mostly deals with the sound quality of speech that the folks on the other end of the line experience. But I certainly expected that they'd put in the effort to make a high quality listening experience as well. That the Icon fell so short in that respect as compared to the Plantronics took me completely by surprise. I submitted the return for the Icon at the end of that work day. I'm going to order another Plantronics 975 as my "car unit". I had high hopes for the Icon, but it definitely didn't live up to them.
