Pyle PLMCA60 is a great product at a great price

I installed this kit on my 2008 Yamaha Roadstar 1700 and it sounds great. The instructions are about as basic as I have ever seen but I figured them out by taking my time and actually reading them. I installed the USB charger and volume control on my clutch (left) switch housing using mirror post (I had to enlarge the hole in the volume control mount) and ran the wired down the OEM wire bundle attached to the lower handlebar. I ran the speaker wires down the backbone of the frame under the gas tank and attached the power lead to the auxillary power port under the left mid-frame side cover. I attached the USB power supply directly to the battery and modified the universal MP3/Radio mount to fit in the center of my handlebars between the speakers. After I got it all hooked up I fired it up and was pleasently surprised by the sound quality and volume. I used my Zune as the music source and set the volume at about 75% on the zune. The handlebar mounted volume control that came with this kit is functional and does allow for small changes in volume dispite what some of the reviewers have stated. Both speakers pump out the same volume and provide a balanced sound. At speeds of below 55 mph the sound is as good as you will get in your car. At speeds above 55mph the sound is still really strong but wind noise begins to intrude a little bit. I have a windshieled on my bike so I am surrounded by sound at any speed. My wife on the back says that even at highway speeds she can hear the music clearly dispite the intrussion of wind noise. All in all this unit is well worth the money and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to add sound to thier bike without breaking the bank. Don't let the negative reviews scare you away...if you follow the instructions, take your time and use commonsense you can install this unit in a couple of hours and be jamming before you know it. This unit is very comptetatively priced and is well worth the money I paid for it. Good luck and ride safe!

Not as good as I had hoped

I had originally ordered the PLMCA30's from Amazon. I got them all installed and they didn't work. I sent them back and decided to pay the extra $30 for these PLMCA60s. If you have any kind of wiring experience then the installation will go pretty smoothely. The only thing ambigious to me was where to plug the speakers into. You have to plug them into the backside of the six pronged connector after you've plugged it in to the other half of it. Also note that the wiring harness included is ONLY for Harleys so if you have anything made in Japan you'll have to directly wire into the bike's power supply. I installed this on a Suziki M50. I installed the ground directly to the battery and with a tester I found a wire (I think it was a tail light wire) that was live when the key was on but not when it was off. DO NOT install directly to the battery, it will leave the amp on all the time and drain your battery. The volume control button that comes with this unit isn't very good. Like others here, I'd recommend leaving the volume control off and using your mp3 players volume control. I didn't hook up the usb charger on mine. Im trying to avoid clutter on my bike and didn't really need it, so I can't speak for how it works. I also didn't use the MP3 mounting bracket that came with it as I didn't want anything besides the speakers permanant on my bike. The solution I came up with is that I bought a hard case off of Amazon for my iPod. I bought two big magnets and glued them to the case then I cut some cloth and glued it over the magnet. I just stick the ipod right on my gas tank and it doesn't go anywhere. (I hit 100 mph just to test it and it was fine). Now, to the performance of the speakers. They're average to say the least. I completely agree with the other reviewers here. I can hear the music just fine until I hit 45-50 mph. After that, it's kind of a garbled mess. I have Vance and Hines pipes, but they aren't terribly loud when I'm cruising along in 5th gear, but the combination of wind and the pipes and the sound definitely gets drowned out. Also, you definitely can't turn the unit all the way up as the sound becomes completely distorted. There's not much bass (although expected from such a small unit) so they also sound a bit tinny. Looking back, I'd probably spend an extra $50 or so to get a good quality pair of speakers. However, if you want something inexpensive to cruise around town to and listen to some tunes, these will do the job just fine.
