Works for me....so far...
By Boomer on Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2014
Dec. 19, 2015...at over 1 year still working great...Upgraded to 5 stars. I have 100ah battery, on a hand truck. Can roll outside, and use 2.2amp Weed Whacker.May 13, 2019... still working great...5 years...Oct. 30, 2015...Still working great.UPDATE: Accidentally charged my battery for two days, so it got fully charged,....I got TWENTY cups of tea...and it did not go down past 12Volt!!! Super!!! Inverter working great...Jan 23rd..2015. If I had realized the battery needed to charge up to 13.8 volts to be fully charged, I could have used the other inverters...but still, if HAVING to go below 12v, their alarm would have gone off...the Cobra does not go off until around 10.5-ish...so that is great. One star off for the 500ma USB port. Some have 2.1a for charging tablets...not really a biggie for me. I have 12v 2.1a Car charger for that if needed...but still...THESE DAYS, it should have been upgraded. Other than that, IT IS PERFECT SO FAR. I have a 14-15 year old generic Chinese 400w inverter, I got it for my portable jumpstarter and it works well, however, it shuts down at just under 12v. I only get 5 1/3 uses with a 300w one cup coffee maker from 13v or so full charge. So...tried to find a 400w inverter that, like my 1500w OSP Tiger Claw, goes down to 10.5v before shutting down. Tried PowerBright. Nice inverter, but squelched like a Banshee at just under 12v...low voltage alarm is set too high. Only got 5 cups out of it too. NEXT...tried the Thor 400w, which also has a 2.1a USB port, does not need to be ON to use, but it too shrieked loud at just under 12v...(sigh).... The back terminals on the Thor are also too close together and have a slight notch, so they don't fit bigger cables with wider O-ring terminals. OK...tried this Cobra....I just got SEVEN uses and no noise under 12v....SWEET....This is the One for me!!! SO FAR... Fan only comes on when needed...less noisy than my generic Chinese old thing. I would not mind this on a trip. My use is a 100ah 12v RV Deep Cycle Battery. I can solar charge it. Also Battery Tender type charger. I use it for a 300w one cup coffee maker....mostly for tea, and hot cider. With the included alligator clips I get 244-249w...82-83-ish efficiency...Hardwired with 4 gauge cables I get 252-254watts...so better connection...and a little better efficiency. The PowerBright was 90% at 279-ish, my Old inverter is also 279-ish...and the Thor was lower at 250 or so...So the Cobra is comparable....and 14 bucks CHEAPER! Not a bad deal. Hope it lasts.UPDATE:Dec 15....Got 10 cups with my one cup coffee maker. Voltage dropped fast below 11.5 to 11volts, only got about 1/4 or 1/3 cup on the 11th use. Still could not be happier. I get twice the cups with this inverter before low voltage alarm, and that was my goal. OK...4.5 Stars...

When it works, its beautiful. But open up a cobra, and the guts aren't so pretty

I had just went through using a black and decker 400watt power inverter. Indeed, it had some issues with continuous 250watt loads. But, the unit for what it was and what it could do, was decently made. And here comes the cobra 400watt inverter. The range of what it could power, probably is much much closer to 400 continuous watts. Includes a cigarette lighter cable, and 2 very small battery clamp cables. But, heres the thing. The quality control of these are HORRIBLE! First, the negative plug bolt actually came out entirely on my just at random. Something that should NEVER happen. Then, come to find out, all the soldering and crimp jobs inside the unit were all faulty. Not even burnt, but looked to be from a novice solderer. Even started sparking terribly at one point, even with nothing on. Ended up having to send it back. Even for as cheap as it is, i would expect it to be half way decently put together. Should still work.Problem is, its not just the 400 model. I've seen people, and reviews have these same issues with other cobra units. Some that came even worse so than mine. My reccomendation? Spend the extra money, and save yourself the time and headaches.
