The Power of Positive Thinking
By JW on Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2015
This kit is perfect. Before I mounted my TV, my daughter who is 21 months old loved getting as close to the tv as possible and even touching it to point out what was on it and it just irked me. I didn't like telling her no or punishing her for it, so I knew something had to be done. Thus, my project began. So when I decided to mount my TV, I knew I didn't want to pay an electrician to move my AC outlet, because I knew these extensions existed and didn't break building code (in Layman's terms, it won't void your homeowner's insurance whereas running a power cord from your TV behind your wall to your outlet will). This thing was a breeze to install, directions were very simple and detailed. I was able to run 4 cords behind my wall through the holes of the wall plate. Although the HDMI cables were a little difficult to get through the hold on bottom half, they fit. Once I got my Television mounted and everything was plugged in, I pushed the power button on my TV and it turned on, but there was nothing on the screen. There was still a back light, but no menus were coming up on the screen, no volume indicator, no input selection, just a black screen. Doing a little bit of research it seems the power inverter on my television is out now. I'm not too worried as my TV is under warranty and since I cannot prove whether it was this kit that caused the problem, I will still give it 5 stars as I wait for the parts to come in and the technician to come out in order to repair the television. If I have any problems after the TV is repaired, I'll change my review appropriately. Until then, this seems to be a solid product. ______________________________________________________________________________ Update 03/09/2015 Due to parts being back ordered, I ended up getting my TV replaced. I put it on the wall, plugged it in, and it works like a champ leading me to believe that this product was not the cause of the first TV's issue. This in wall extension does the job and looks sleek.

Clever solution, some flaws, price too high
By IMO Review on Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2012
This product offers a clever solution for hiding your wires yet keeping code compliant. The package shipped quickly and arrived well packaged. It took about an hour to install, but mostly because I had to figure certain things out that weren't clearly explained and a couple of work arounds to issues, standard fare for a do it yourselfer. Pros of this product are that it has all parts required minus the tools. Everything from wiring, screws, crimps, etc. were all included and neatly packaged. All you need is a screw driver, pliers and a straight blade/box cutter to cut the drywall. Also, I like how it is recessed and allows for a clean look even when the TV is off the wall, and the color and shape make it look like it was an original outlet already there. some of the other brands are shaped oddly or in black and therefore, the outlet clearly looks out of place. Additionally, some of the other popular choices stick out more and are less recessed. The final product looked clean and did what it said it would, it ran the wires through the wall and kept it to code. Unfortunately, despite doing what it said it would, there are still some cons. First, the directions are horrible. In order to save on paper, they made it wordy with few pictures. The few pictures they did have were confusing and only one of the three served any purpose. These instructions were not for a beginner "Do-It-Yourselfer" to follow step by step without any confusion. I've done simple wiring for home repairs before and even with that, this was not that clear. Luckily, I had a general understanding of how this product worked already as well as how to run the wiring, but even I became almost discouraged. Also, the box fastening tool isn't very secure as they are essentially loose flaps that screw tight and hold the box tight to the drywall. Even at its tightest, there was some give. There are also some companies that make a similar kit but make everything horizontal in alignment for the top part behind the TV. I now see why. Most people put the outlet in the middle of the TV mount bracket on the wall as most have a square cut out in the middle specifically for this purpose. This square design of this kit's outlet didn't fit so it wasn't completely flush, some of it overlapped metal. A horizontal alignment here would allowed for a lot more flexibility with different kits. Finally, although a minor problem, the extension chord for the bottom part of the kit sticks out too far at the plug going into the recessed socket, making for about an inch sticking out beyond the wall that the entertainment console can't go closer to. It is odd that they would think about recessed plugs but not factor this in with the extension chord they supply. This is a quick fix by purchasing another one, but then that somewhat defeats the purpose of an all-in-one kit. At the end of the day, the kit did what it claimed it would. However, factoring in all the pros and cons, and then weighing that against the price, I can't really give this product a high score. It did what it said, it hid the wires and allowed for recessed plugs, all while keeping compliant. However, the price wasn't cheap for the kit (I expected more for the price) and purchased separately, you could possibly make this kit cheaper. Additionally, there are other kits that offer the same end result, some with better prices. The directions were bad and there were some design flaws. Were the price to be more competitive, I would have given this four stars, but considering I had to figure out how to put this together myself since the instructions were so poor and unclear, I couldn't rank it any higher. I would most likely try another kit for future efforts.
