This little guy......

This little beauty is now my favorite purchase for my home theater. I am a bit deaf in one ear so I need to feel my movies/games/music to really enjoy them. JBL has made this possible for a very reasonable price. I have had a PSW 10 for about a year and I do love that sub, for the price. But it cannot handle much "low" bass without port noise. I decided I wanted something to fill in the low end so I went out and bought a Dayton Audio Sub-1500. This is great because the 15 can really move some air in them low frequencies . I do like this quite a bit , but I still wasnt getting that consistent feel of the sounds . Enter the JBL ES250PBK. From the moment I set this up , I had a smile on my face. One of those perma grins you get from hooking up with someone you really like for the first time. I had a hard time watching Guardians of the Galaxy because I kept looking over with doe eyes at this sub and sighing with a smile . With music it hits the notes it should with a decent punch ,but the extended bass is what turns this into a daytime only sub for my house. Ive got the gain just a little over half and from the basement it shakes wall boards on all three levels. I can feel the bass on my front porch, and even in my attached garage. Paired with the 15 , is ridiculous. So when all the kids and wife are asleep , I have to turn off the JBL and "suffer "through having to watch TV with only a 15 going. I paid 199 for mine , but after having it for a bit , I dont think I would have been disappointed if I'd have paid twice that. My summary : If you like good stuff you should buy.sound go boom vury nice.

Good Value at $199.00 with Free Shipping

For the money, its going to be a good value and sounds OK. Just don't expect this to sound like the $700 Hsu Research or $1000 Velodyne 12" Sub-woofers on the market. With a pair of Vandersteen 2ci Tower Speakers as my L+R speakers for over 20 years, I'm used to high-quality bass sounds down to 32hz. Using this sub with those speakers in a Dolby 5.1 configuration, really didn't do much to the overall "quality" of the bass, in my humble opinion. Sure, the hard thumps and cannon blasts "hit harder," but for those occasional moments of Boom -- no real improvement in the bottom end Qualitatively. I had the crossover set at the lowest point (50hz, I believe). All is not lost, however……our basement Home Gym has our old Yamaha 2.0 DSP-200 Surround Sound amp/processor with a boomy 18" powered B-52 subwoofer, and I put the JBL ES-250PBK into that system, which uses Powered 8" Event (™) Studio Monitors (100w powered). At the higher crossover point for these bookshelf-sized speakers(100 hz), this subwoofer came alive. It seems that the 12" polyplas woofer really puts out MOST of its useful output in the 40-100 hz range, and this configuration makes use of that physical reality. Bottom line: Audiophiles will not be overwhelmed with this subwoofer, but most buyers will be satisfied with their purchase. Be sure to buy the EXTRA ONE YEAR WARRANTY (only $18, well worth the price) as most of the complaints and returns on this product are in the electronic power supply and amplifiers, about 15% will go bad in the 12-24 month life span. Get the Square Trade warranty.
