Good Radio

Bought this as a replacement for my Galaxy for use in my big truck. The Galaxy quit and I didn't feel like spending alot for a new radio. I am pleasantly surprised at how good this little Midland works. Puts out pretty good and everyone I talk to say it sounds 10-2! Just beware that the radio comes with a Electret microphone (C-MIC). I tried to use a dynamic mic and the radio had low audio, so the 4 pin mic from a Galaxy, Cobra, Uniden will not work. They are dynamic mics. The C-Mic that comes with this radio is a really high quality mic. It's heavy, I think it may be noise-cancelling, and it has the real heavy, flexible 9 foot cord. It is a 4-pin connector just like all the other radios.

Midland Stinks

This unit had an attractive price, so against the opinions of several CBers I bought it. It would not work right out of the box, It would power up, BUT NO TRANSMIT OR RECEIVE capabililities. Rather than go throught the hassle of sending it back I took it to a very reputable CB repair shop with over 40 years of CB experience. After running up a $40 bill, was told that a major power component was non functional right from the factory. So much for Midland Quality Control. I placed the Midland 5001Z in the trash where it belongs and ended up buying a Cobra CB which I was told by friends to do in the first place, Midland had this one chance to impress me right out of the box and failed miserably. Midland....YOU STINK.
