Still rated as best detector for the money
By C. Pilot on Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2013
Excellent radar detector for the money, and even though I believe it has been replaced with a newer model, it's still rated as one of (if not the) best in it's price range. Nice features, easy to use, seems to be very accurate and warns early on all bands, even behind . Very happy with this purchase. 11/2/2013 Update: Since so many states found it difficult to just unilaterally outlaw the use of radar detectors, they have been trying to reduce their use through alternative avenues like outlawing any device attached to the windshield. This is exactly what they did in Florida, and they even refined the language of the law to exclude GPS navigation systems after a significant negative response to the law specifically because it's a common way to attach aftermarket GPS nav systems. In Florida it was done VERY QUIETLY, too, probably since this is such a hot topic. Just be advised and know your state laws, because ignorance of the law will not stop you from getting a ticket, and will likely not justify appealing one. I recommend going with a nice mirror attachment method, which is what I did with the following items: MirrorMountTM Radar Detector Mirror Mount - Beltronics RX65 STI Magnum, GX65 http://www.amazon.com/MirrorMountTM-Radar-Detector-Mirror-Mount/dp/B0063N7HZE/ref=cm_cr-mr-title Direct Wire Power Cord for Escort & Beltronics Radar and Laser Detectors http://www.amazon.com/Direct-Power-Escort-Beltronics-Detectors/dp/B00D3NXM2Y/ref=cm_cr-mr-title The combination of both of the above allows you to mount your detector on your mirror (at perfect height and position for 360-degree protection) as well as hardware it to the fuse panel for a clean install. If you have a 12v accessory plug on your dash, you can also just use the OEM power cord if you don't mind it hanging down. 6/8/2014 Update: Detector is still working great, but especially over the last 6 months of use I've notice a significant (and annoying) increase in false alarms from all the vehicles that now have proximity sensors, blindspot sensors, lane changing sensors, etc., some of which are actually using the Ka band (most use K band). I've even had the few cars currently out with laser guided cruise control (even my own Toyota Sienna) cause the laser sensor to freak out. Although this can be annoying, it does achieve the ultimate purpose of radar detectors by reminding you to slow down. However, with all this recent polution of the radar/laser bands, I would definitely go to court over any ticket. If my own laser cruise control can (albeit rarely) cause my own detector to false a lidar signal, and every Buick, Mercedes, etc., trips the K or Ka band every time they pass me, then I would definitely argue that there is a significant chance that the ticketing officer's equipment received the same band polution resulting in an inaccurate speed reading. I know these speed detection devices used by the police use specific frequencies within these bands, but if the device was not recently calibrated or otherwise properly maintained, it could easily be affected by all this new band polution. Regardless, still loving this radar detector, and I've noticed in the reviews for much more expensive detectors that even those are still affected by this new proximity sensor false alerts from other vehicles. It appears this is just something that radar detector users are going to have to tolerate.

Great detector, questionable durabilty...
By Colby anderson on Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2011
I bought this detector about 3 months ago to replace my quickly ageing escort: passport 8500, which after almost 2 years of reliable function, started to give very annoying false LASER alerts, but it overall it was a very well made device. Then I was faced with the Tuff decision of buying a new one, and the vector seemed like a sound decision, after much research... ...So when I first got the vector I was very pleased with its solid design, seemed to be durable, but nothing that flashy/special. It has a well lit display screen, and audio readouts which are very convenient. It also has a nice auto mute option which tones down the sound of alerts to about half or less, after a few seconds. As for the actual detecting it seemed to pick up X, K, and KA bands very well, with little false reads, especially when you have it in Auto Scan mode. Now for my explanation of the two star rating.. ..About a week ago it just stopped working for no reason, it was working fine, I took very good care of it, and then it just crapped out, no power, no nothing. that night I got pulled over, and lets just say things definitely didn't go my way, and I would have seen him if the radar detector I bought for that exact purpose had worked like it should have... I recommend just shelling out some cash and buying a high-end one, because trust me it will save you bundles in the end, and this thing just isn't reliable.
