Will Wilde Rock Harmonica Tuning
SEYDEL endorser Will Wilde is the inventor of this special mood, which is particularly suitable for the harder pace in rock and blues rock music. Read here how Will Wilde came up with this atmosphere, which he has been using regularly for a few years:
“I designed the “Wilde Tuning” specifically for playing hard rock and blues rock on the harmonica. Even though I love the standard Richter tuning, I always found it frustrating when I wanted to play “rock guitar” -like licks, especially in the upper octave. The “wild mood” fixes all problems I had on the judge, and at the same time I keep the bluesy game feel in 2nd position that all players know and love.
While the traditional Richter tuning was primarily designed to play dura chords and the corresponding major scale in the first position, the “Wild Tuning” is specifically designed for playing in the minor-pentatonic and blues scales in the 2nd position, equally over all three octaves!
I've always found the sound of the pull notes (and pull bends) to be fuller than the sound of the wind tones - the pull tones simply have more expression, a fatter sound and a nicer vibrato. With “Wild Tuning”, I can set ALL draw tones (1-10) without exception and the root tone is one draw in all three octaves.
I think the “Wild Tuning” is the configuration that every ambitious rock harmonica player has been waiting for a long time!”
