I always said that I knew things "like the back of my hand". "Oh I know this part of the city like the back of my hand." "I know this water park like the back of my hand." "I know this system of torturous caves like the back of my hand." But then one day I woke up and realized that the back of my hand and I had grown apart -- I hardly knew anything about it at all.
That's when I decided to get this Flip-Pal scanner and started this "picture a day" project. I'm going to make a video documenting the changes in the back of my hand over a 50-year period. You know, like one of these timelapse videos. That way I'll be able to really stay in touch with the minute day-to-day changes in the back of my hand, so we never grow apart again.
Sure, the scanner's great for digitizing old photos, but what hooked me is that it's battery-powered and portable, so I can scan from anywhere. And that's handy 'cuz the back of my hand goes everywhere with me, and I don't want to miss a single day. Its 600dpi resolution means I can capture the changes in every vein and thumb-hair whorl.
Since it's designed for scanning photos, it has a "flip and scan" feature, in which you lay the scanner over the photo rather than the other way around. But that works equally well for the back of my hand -- I just lay it on a flat surface, do a quick scan, save it to the memory card, and upload it to my computer. Easy-peasy.
Now I've got to figure out a video project for my face, which people say "only a mother could love", but I bet there's someone else out there who could.
