My father bought a pair of these last time they were up. We tried doing wireless across a kitchen ab 25 feet and had interference issues. I'd never recommend these to anyone. Ever.

I have to agree with you. I bought one for a gift for my son in law last time they were offered here. He tried every configuration imaginable to make the interference issues go away. Nothing worked. It's embarrassing. There are much better ones out there, I'm sure.

$39.99 last time. Strange why it went up.

I have the same report here. I bought one last go round, and unless it's 3 feet from the receiver, I'll get interference. In addition, the sound cuts out every 30 seconds which is annoying. Next time, I'm going with something else.

Refurbs last time $39.99
Excellent for purpose.
Not an audiophile reference speaker.
A kick back with a drink on the "wireless" veranda speaker.

Careful when looking - there are several models that look the same. I couldn't find this "AW825m" model on AR's site using their own search.

The B&H link appears to refer to an "AW825" model without the "m". That little "m" *might* make all the difference.

A long time ago AR was a decent speaker company. Perhaps these sound good (I don't know personally), but I'm suspicious when the speaker sound performance specs (not the distance specs) aren't listed.

I got a pair of the refurbs last time, only one of the refurbs wasn't refurbed enough.

I emailed woot right away but still haven't heard back from them. They're normally pretty good about responding.

Of the one that did work, the quality seemed really good. The other one wouldn't connect to either wireless tower, which is probably why it was returned as a refurb.

A few things of note. These can all sync off a single tower, and you can set them to play left stereo, right stereo or both channels.

I don't think you could do surround sound though (two towers send front left, rear left, front right, rear right), as they didn't seem to be keyed to a particular tower. When I was debugging the bad one I was able to use the towers interchangeably with the good one.

Have you tried checking the Spam folder of your email provider? Sometimes the responses can get filtered in there.

I've also forwarded your issue onto Member Services to see if they can help out.

i purchased the same product from WOOT last month but it wasa refurbished unit. It came with two identical 9 volt power cords BUT the unit requires a 9 volt and 12 volt power supply.

I'm still trying to resolve the issue but to no avail. All I want is to return the unit and get a refund or credit. Can someone at WOOT please help me. I have made a number of attempts to resolve it with both WOOT and Acoustic Research (AR). HELP is needed for a Loyal WOOT customer.

Scratch my comment about not being able to do surround sound. I just checked the transmitter.

The transmitter has 3 channels, and each channel can send two signals (left and right). So, ultimately 3 transmitters can send 6 audio sources so you could do something like:

  • Front Left
  • Front Right
  • Front Center
  • Rear Left
  • Rear Right
  • Rear Center

Oh my!! The only reference I find on the web to the AW825m, the M being significant, is for REFURBISHED units.

STAFF - please tell us that these are definitely NOT refurbs and what the "m" stands for.

I've ordered 2 and I will not accept refurbs.

We have to go with what the specifications are listed as.

By all accounts today's sale of the AR 900MHz Wireless Outdoor Speaker should be NEW and NOT REFURBISHED.

It might save everyone a lot of time and trouble if woot makes a call to your supplier to verify this. I quickly found half a dozen web listings for the AW825m and they were all refurbished.

900 MHz was the cordless phone frequency (25 years ago) before we arrived at 2.4 GHz. 900 MHz sux.

Understand your concern, and the m certainly caused confusion above. I also have not been perfect in linking up the right model before. However, if there's any doubt, look at the specs and see if they match, and look at the appearance. In this case, m or not, they all seem to link up, including at B&H. Your concern was reasonable, but it looks like the concerns have been addressed.

Assuming the link above is accurate to the model, here's the manual from the product website, in case anyone comes back to this in the future, since it's sold out:

When our shipping sucks, allow 5 business days for processing and getting it out the door. If they went out Friday, you won't see any update until later Monday. If you don't see any tracking or movement by then, pop Customer Service an email (support@woot.com) or use the Support form at the top of the page. They can look into it and give you the low down.

Ok, saw the various posts on what to do when shipping sucks. Been there, done that for these speakers and still no response from customer service after 24 hours. It sure didn't take long for Woot to suck the payment out of my account. Can I have my speakers now?

Just chose not to chance the purchase of a Banksy print because of this.

My two units came, and as I suspected, and requested further inquiry, THEY ARE BOTH REFURBISHED UNITS. A label on the bottom of each box lists it as refurbished - see below:

Once upon a time there was a buyer who purchased these AR 900MHz Wireless Outdoor Speakers for the world of Woot. However, in his haste to rush these wonderful boxes of audio technology to you, he wrote the wrong number on the order parchment to the vendor. The vendor, being but a minion of the kingdom, did thus print the labels using this wrong number and then affix them to the pallets of boxes without ever reading the words they held. Tragically, had he but read them, he would have seen that the labels said "Refurbished" instead of NEW, which these boxes of wireless sound wizardry indeed were.

What does this mean to you? You received NEW speakers with the wrong labels. In other words, you got a label with 8 extra letters at no additional charge! That's right, eleven letters for the price of three!

Can you believe it? You don't? Ok, fine. If you feel that we're spewing you a pack of lies, please feel free to email Member Services at support@woot.com and they can help you return the product for a full refund. Unfortunately, we do not have any available for replacement and if we did, they'd still say refurbished.

Sincerely,
Don't Shoot the Messenger

This tale leaves me with three questions.

If it is original from AR, why is the product ID different, e.g. the "m" appended to your product, and it's not part of the ID on the AR web site (or any other vendor of these speakers for that matter)?

Why did woot request another label be affixed over the original manufacturer's on the box bottom?

How will Audiovox respond when a wooter tries to use the 1 year warranty?

Answers:

the part number was created specifically for this sale by AR

Why did woot request another label be affixed over the original manufacturer's on the box bottom?
because we used the WRONG part number when ordering from the vendor, thus requesting them to use stickers with different part numbers

How will Audiovox respond when a wooter tries to use the 1 year warranty?

you shouldn't encounter any issues with Acoustic Research. The 1 year Audiovox warranty is still valid on these orders and will be honored. If you encounter any warranty issues with your purchase, you can always email Member Services here at support@woot.com for help

Sincerely,
Woot Staff

So you're saying that woot accidentally ordered refurbished products, and AR accidentally sent you brand new goods, but followed woot's instructions to label them "refurbished". Given the AW825m part number created by AR for this sale, and your description of the multiple errors, that's the logical conclusion. All product I find on the web identified as AW825m from AR seems to be refurbished, so that must be what you ordered and posted for sale (see screen clip below):

Is that how it went?

ThunderThighs

quality posts: 563 Private Messages ThunderThighs

@linrey: The sales are created from the purchase orders. The buyer arranged the sale with the vendor for new product. He filled out the PO wrong and the vendor used our PO to create the labels for the product. Labels are often put over product UPCs to prevent them being returned to other retail outlets.

Again, if you are uncomfortable keeping the product, just email support@woot.com and they'll help you return them.

Sorry for the confusion .
